Located on the first floor of the lobby. I made my 80-minute massage and 50- minute exfoliation appointment three days in advance. Glad I did because they booked fast. So, definitely schedule one as soon as you get there! As soon as I walked in, the aroma of relaxation consumed me. I filled out the New Client Intake forms and was escorted into a separate relaxing room with a heated shoulder wrap while I reclined in a chair and watched a nature-like video on their wall. Talk about relaxing!
The Massage Therapist walked into the lounge and escorted me back to the room and confirmed the type of services I ordered. She told me to get completely naked and start face down. I undressed to my bikini bottom. (Hey, I was just at the pool! Plus, it’s Cancun! So don’t judge.) She knocked and came back into the room. As soon as she inserted the bolster under my ankles, she grabbed the linens and pulled it down to my hamstrings, exposing my back and glutes. Wasn’t expecting that to happen! She then pulled my bikini bottom down past my glutes (without asking or warning me) and proceeded to massage my neck, back, arms, and glute. And I for sure wasn’t expecting that to happen! Once done with my upper extremities, she pulled up my bikini bottom, covered me back up and went to my legs and feet. Halfway through, she flipped me over to work on the anterior (front) legs, arms, and neck before starting the exfoliation.
The Massage Therapist did a great job checking in with the pressure and educating me on what product she was going to use while conducting the exfoliation process. She only talked when she needed to and when she did, she whispered in my ear rather than talking out loud. When both the massage and exfoliation was over, she whispered in my ear telling me to take my time and she’ll be in the hall waiting for me. Soon as I was dressed, left my cash gratuity on the massage table and walked out into the hall, she escorted me back to the lobby.
It was a very relaxing massage and I enjoyed every minute of it! Just a heads up on a couple things should you embark on this adventure:
- When I made the appointment, I made sure to ask about the currency and preferred method of payment. They took my visa card but rung it up in peso. So you might want to check with your bank and let them know you are leaving the country. And don’t forget the calculator app on your phone if you want to see the U.S. Dollar conversion.
- If the therapist tells you to get naked, don’t feel like you have to. I kept my bikini bottom on to see what would happen. Being in the medical field for as long as I have, living in the Keys (and other parts of Florida for that matter), having kids, etc, I’ve seen everything and am not modest. So it didn’t bother me when she pulled my bottom down to work my glutes. But, if you are not comfortable with them being exposed, don’t be afraid to tell your therapist. It’s your massage! And your modesty and comfort is the upmost important.
